Whether you’re visiting for a few days on vacation, exploring as part of a corporate relocation, or merely looking to have a magical weekend with your family, Pittsburgh offers ample opportunities for parents and children to connect.
The best ways to get moving around Pittsburgh with kids includes our Top 10 favorites:
1. Pittsburgh Children’s Museum
2. National Aviary, the nation’s largest
3. Take in a Steelers (football), Penguins (hockey) or a Pirates (baseball) game.
4. Tour the Phipps Conservatory
5. Ride up a mountain on the Duquesne Incline
6. Visit Pittsburgh Zoo
7. Explore Kennywood Amusement Park
8. See the Carnegie Museum or Natural History and Carnegie Museum of Art

A bonus stop for families with older kids would be to discover and tour the city with a nod to Andrew Carnegie, one of the Pittsburgh pioneers in the late 19th century. Although Carnegie was born in Scotland, he emigrated to Pittsburgh with his family at the age of 12. There, he made his fortune and left his mark on Pittsburgh by giving away a tremendous chunk of his wealth to help locals enjoy art, science, music, and literature.
All told, Carnegie’s philanthropic efforts totaled around $350 million (roughly $5.5 billion in today’s money) after he built, and eventually sold, Pittsburgh’s Carnegie Steel Company.
