If you’re thinking about moving or you have just moved, it’s a great time to think about spring-cleaning. You probably know some of the basic cleaning spots (floors, windows, shelves), but you may be missing a few others that often get left until the end. Here’s our best check-list for the places you may have missed.


  • Clean your crown molding and baseboards
  • Wipe down your light fixtures
  • Dust ceiling fans
  • Wash doors and fix scuff marks
  • Wash walls and/or fix wall scuffs
  • Touch-up paint
  • Wash window curtains
  • Clean window sills
  • Dust book cases
  • Polish furniture
  • Wipe down and clean furniture (especially under cushions and under couches and chairs)
  • Vacuum and wash lamp shades
  • Condition leather furniture

  • Deep clean floors (wood, tile and carpet)
  • Shampoo carpet (if needed)
  • Remove rugs and then vacuum
  • Clean air vents
  • Dust around pictures and wall hangings (mirrors)
  • Replace light bulbs
  • Replace batteries in smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detector
  • Schedule chimney sweep
  • Schedule bug spray


  • Clean trash can
  • Clean microwave
  • Clean dishwasher
  • Clean out refrigerator and organize
  • Clean and organize freezer
  • Replace the water filter
  • Clean the oven
  • Clean the hood vent and replace filter
  • Clean and disinfect the garbage disposal
  • Organize storage containers

  • Check expiration date on spices and baking goods


  • Tighten toilet seat hinges
  • Disinfect tooth brushes

  • Throw away expired make-up
