George BlogMoving brings plenty of challenges with it, not least of which is the physical component of moving. Hopefully, you’re trusting our Pittsburgh movers handle the tough parts for you, but you’ve probably got plenty of things to do before then. So when you’re packing and lifting those boxes in preparation for your move, here’s a few ways to stay safe and fit. Lifting correctly. Most folks know the right answers when it comes to proper lifting technique. The problem is most people don’t actually do it. So if you’re going to be lifting a lot, bend at the knees...not at the back. Even with small boxes, don’t bend over for them. Kneel down beside them to lift, and your back will thank you later that night. It also might be good to invest in a lifting belt if you’re going to have extended periods of lifting. Yet another reason to call in the pros! Stay hydrated. If you don’t keep pounding the water during physical activity, dehydration will wear you out quicker than anything else. Keep a water bottle nearby at all times, and break frequently for drinks. Speaking of which… Take breaks frequently. Depending on the type of physical workout you’re getting, you’ll want to break at least every hour or two. This is a great time to get a drink and/or snack. But it’s also a great time to just relax. Take five or ten minutes and just do nothing. This will give both your body and mind a chance to rejuvenate. Always remember that we can handle as much or as little of your move as you need, and we’ll give you a free quote. Give us a call at 800-810-2635.
